Anna Latham never knew werewolves existed, until the night she survived a violent attack... and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the Chicago pack, she's learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But when she discovers wrongdoing in her pack, she has to go above her Alpha's head to ask for help.

Charles Cornick is the son — and enforcer — of the leader of the North American werewolves. Now his father has sent him to Chicago to clean up a problem there. Charles never expected to find Anna, a rare Omega wolf — and he certainly never expected to recognize her as his mate...

This novella was originally published in the anthology, On the Prowl. FIVE BOUNDLESS STARS

I’ve had the Alpha and Omega series on my TBR list for FOREVER. After finishing the latest Mercy Thompson novel, I was jonesing for more Patricia Briggs. I had two choices start this series or go back and re-read Mercy from the beginning. I made my choice. First off I was glad I checked Goodreads for the reading order because I was going to start with book 1 in the series which would have been a mistake. In the Alpha and Omega series, you absolutely must start with this book. It introduces Anna, and we already knew a little about Charles from Mercy, but this gives us a better understanding of him. Now also keep in mind this book is part of the larger “Mercyverse” and you need to have read some of that to have a better understanding of what is going on here. Patrica Briggs website has an excellent timeline for the reading order. Here is the link http://patriciabriggs.com/books/timeline.html I haven’t read all of the short stories or novella’s only the Mercy Novels. It looks like I have more reading to do. In Alpha on Omega, we meet Anna, who is an abused werewolf at the bottom of the Chicago pack. When she learns of another wolfs abuse, she finally gets the courage to call for help. Charles is the son of Bran, the leader of all North American werewolves. He is his father’s enforcer and is sent to protect Anna and investigate her claims. It’s there he discovers the truth about her. I loved this story. It was full of danger, tragedy, heroism, and the start of a budding romance. I am already starting the next in the series Cry Wolf. Then I think I am going to stop and read/listen to the series in Patricia Briggs reading order. I am rating Alpha and Omega 5 Boundless Stars, and it was excellent.
