That old song plays in my head, as the world turns around me faster than it has ever turned.
Monsters and mayhem. That's become my life.
Fear and apprehension. That's become the normal for those around me.

Jabs from a complicated, ancient past keep coming so much and so quickly that I've grown desensitized to them. Which is a good thing, since I'm about to need a thick skin. I guess it's time to see if I can handle being in the middle, because that's where I'm about to put myself.
My mother always did accuse me of being a masochist. I'm starting to think she must be right. Either they love me, or they love her. I suppose it's time to find out who wins. I don't fight pretty, and I'm not that great at smack talk. It's not that they're not worth fighting for.
I just don't want to have to fight for them. Not when when I'm fighting bigger battles already.
Either we're in this together, or I'm on my own.

I wish Cunning’s books came with a bit of recap. It would be fine if they were read back to back. But if you are like me and have read 24 books between, the details get a bit scattered. Yes, the number is 24, I counted. Idum is awake and just as devious as everyone has said. Violet is just as cunning and everyone including her men who think she is a Gentle Simpelton, underestimate her. While her pretty monsters are distracted by Idum and everything she may be up to. Violet is setting the stage to take over and have things changed for the better and run on her terms. As the boys sit back clueless thinking, she is brainless. “Also, give Violet what she wants, because she won’t like how often we have to cater to Idum. It’s best to not rile the one we want over the one we want to carefully detach from,” I loved that Violet is FINALLY starting to get through to those four idiots that she isn’t stupid, she may be a Simpelton Monster, but that doesn’t make her simple in the head. And they keep forgetting she is half Portocale She is smart, and ten steps ahead of the game when it comes to Idum. “I was born to stand in your way, just because I fucking can. And now everyone’s going to know that you’re not my problem. But I just became the only problem you’re allowed to have, because you, the big, scary, all-powerful alpha can’t even make me scream while I’m still just a pup.” I am rating Gypsy Rising (All the Pretty Monsters #5) 4.5 Stars, and It was really good once my brain clicked on and I remembered the back story. My memory is so bad, recaps help me so much.
