Twenty-two-year-old Kyle McKallister has lived his life in the shadows. Younger brother to one of the world’s most elusive and embattled celebrities, Kyle has carved out a comfortable existence touring with his famous brother and living in the lap of luxury with no commitments or plans of his own, only a deep, haunting loyalty to his brother. But his life is about to be shaken up when the opportunity comes to compete on a popular reality show.
Small town girl Kenzie Williams has come on the show for one thing only: to win. But when a disastrous start forces her to rely on an eclectic band of misfits, she finds herself immediately smitten with a handsome and mysterious cast mate.
But life on the island is just a game. Can Kyle and Kenzie’s fragile spark survive the pressures of the real world? FIVE BOUNDLESS STARS
This story was such a joy to read. It has been years since I have watched survivor, so I vaguely remember it, and in this book, the characters are on a Survivor-type Reality Show. It was a lot of fun. Kyle, who we met in book 1 is Jake’s younger brother and pretty much a slacker who is content to live in Jake’s shadow. He has no direction and no real purpose in his life. He was with Jake when the kidnapping accrued, and he is carrying so much guilt from that day because he feels like it is his fault. Kyle has spent the rest of his life being a sidekick to Jake since that tragedy. This Reality Show is the first time Kyle has been on his own, and he finds out the man he is without the overshadowing spotlight of his big brother. Kenzie is a small town girl stuck helping her father raise her siblings when her mother died during their delivery. She gets the opportunity to be on this reality show and win huge prize money which means the world to her family. She is on a mission to win no matter what. All of her plans might go up in smoke when she meets the very charming, funny, attractive Kyle the first day on the island. Can you play a ruthless game when you may be in love with a competitor? The Theory of Second Best was funny, emotional, highly entertaining and I loved every minute listening to the audiobook. Listening to Kenzie fall head over heels for Kyle, while he was clueless was just so adorable. Men! I loved it. I am rating this on 5 Boundless stars, and I am already starting book 3 in the series.
