Jake McKallister might have been a rock star, but he was no ordinary one. Surviving an unspeakable crime as a young teen had shaped him into a guarded workaholic, and he now lived his life trying to forget. If it hadn’t been for music and the redemption he found through it, he might not have survived. Career success came easily for him. Personal connections did not.

When outspoken, vivacious college student Casey Caldwell was paired with the famously reserved rockstar for a friend’s wedding, she was prepared for the worst. What could they possibly have in common? She was a bubbly talker; he was a reclusive loner. His life was filled with music; she couldn’t carry a tune. She’d enjoyed a happy childhood; his was a well-publicized nightmare.

Yet despite their obvious differences, Jake and Casey found each other, and her light balanced out his darkness. Would their love be strong enough to survive the weight of his tragic past? FIVE BOUNDLESS STARS

I usually don’t care for “Rockstar Romances,” but this one is so different. Jake is a damaged man from being kidnapped by a serial killer when he was 13. That gives his character so much depth and heart. He isn’t the average douchey Rockstar. He was sweet, vulnerable, and he broke my heart. Casey was perfect, nerdy, funny, down to earth, and not afraid to laugh at herself. She isn’t superficially, and even though she crushes on Jake hard she plays it cool, and her charm and effervescence is what draws Jake to her. She is what Jake needs. I loved this story and was so blown away by the depth of emotions it brought out in me. There was laughter, smiles, sadness, rage, and some tears. But mostly smiles. I am already moving on to the second book in this series, and I can’t wait for more. I am rating Cake: A Love Story 5 Boundless Stars.
