Dark Fantasy. Dragons. Intrigue. Romance.
More than anything, I crave adventure. But in the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the well-established rings of our kingdom. At the very heart reigns our vicious king and Lord Irrik, an invincible dragon shifter, at his side. Their power poisons the land and the people, leading to a steadily mounting number of enemies.
But change is coming.
When the rebellion surges, the king strikes back. Captured by Lord Irrik, I'm suddenly embroiled in a deadly game. One where I'm desperate to understand the rules.
Because I'm not only fighting for my life... but also a love that could be the very key to my freedom. FOUR BOUNDLESS STARS
I was honestly thinking this was a dark fantasy romance. Yeah not so much. A lot dark, a lot of fantasy, not so much on the romance part. However, the story was intriguing, and it kept me interested. The only downfall was how much Ryn would break down and cry. Now I totally get that her circumstances sucked and she is so young, but I prefer my heroines to be made of sturdier stuff. Especially the ending OMG that wasn’t worth breaking down over. Kneeing him in the nuts, yes, breaking down into a sniveling mess no. Gah, where are your lady balls already? I hate a crier. Blood Oath is full of tragedy and so much pain and betrayal. Ryn is caught in a political game that she is ill-equipped to understand and play. She receives the brunt of everyone’s displeasure. Be advised there is a lot of torture, brutality, and abuse that go on in this book. Nothing sexual so far. Just pure violence. Luckily I didn’t find anything too graphic. But some may find the material objectionable. I am giving Blood Oath (Darkest Drae #) 4 Boundless Stars. It is a developed Dark Fantasy that I am looking forward to seeing how the story evolves.
