Fiery Seas Everlasting

July 10, 2018

John Douglas may be a well-trained political assassin, but he has met his match in the woman he once called a friend. When his childhood playmate reenters his life, she's not looking to rekindle their friendship... she's out for blood.

With a vendetta to settle, Charlotte Cornewalle isn't stopping until she finds the man who killed her father. All signs point to Robert Douglas, the leader of the opposing faction of assassins... and John's father. To get her revenge, no one will stand in her way... not even the boy she once adored.

Fate forces them together as they fight to prove their innocence and right the wrongs they have suffered. Sparks fly from more than just their swords, but will they be able to put the past behind them? Will they be able to find the truth before it destroys them both?

20 Questions with: Katherine Hastings

1. What do you love most about writing?

I love the “me time” involved with writing. When I’m not writing, I’m usually checking my phone, doing stuff for clients, and answering calls. But when it’s time to write, I shut everything down. My headphones go on and I step away from the world and disappear inside my novel. It’s quite a wonderful feeling to immerse myself in different worlds and places without ever leaving my writing chair!

2. What is your favorite movie?

That’s a tough one! I guess I’d have to say the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy is probably at the top. I love the action, adventure, and all the characters!

3. What’s one thing you’ve always wished for?

Flexibility. Not being tethered to a schedule or an office. I am fortunate that I have found that in my life, and I value it above almost everything. I have the freedom to ride my pony, go to the beach, and spend time with my family while still getting my work and writing done.

4. What mythical creature do you wish actually existed?

A Pegasus! I ride horses and having one that could fly would be amazing!

5. What is one place you’ve always wanted to go to?

Italy. I’ve never been but I’ve always wanted to see it. I just finished a novel set along the Amalfi Coast and after all my research for the book, I’m itching to go there even more!

6. If you could go back in time, what year would you go back to?

I would love to go back to the times of Cleopatra and Mark Antony around 40 BC. I’m fascinated by the cultures and the stories that came out of that time period.

7. What’s your favorite thing to do during the summer?

Float in my raft! I drag my raft to the beach almost every day and spend my afternoons working and writing on the water. I live for my beach days!

8. What one thing do you really want but can’t afford?

An indoor pool. I’m a water baby and love to float on the water. If I had an indoor pool at home, I could float around all winter long when it’s below zero outside. You’d find me there almost every day floating away while I write.

9. What job would you absolutely be terrible at?

A night security guard. I get creeped out in dark places all by myself when my imagination runs wild. I’d be calling 911 every night certain there was a Mission: Impossible style attack going on and I’m sure I’d be fired after a week.

10. What are you absolutely determined to do?

Make a career as a writer. I’ve spent my whole life pushing the boundaries to create a life I love. So far, I’ve managed to accomplish everything I’ve set out to do with hard work and determination. Now I want to find a way to make a career of my biggest passion… writing. It would be a dream come true to write for a living!

11. Would you rather live for a week in the past or the future?

In the past. I hate ruined surprises and can’t stand knowing anything about a book or a movie I haven’t seen yet. I feel like living in the future for a week would be the equivalent to someone telling me how a book ends.

12. What weird food combinations do you really enjoy?

I love going to a restaurant called Al Johnson’s and putting cream cheese and their Swedish lingonberry preserves on bagels. Yum!

13. Does fate exist? If so, do we have free will?

That is a very good question! I believe in free will. I think life is what you make it, and you’re rewarded for brave and bold choices that don’t compromise your values.

14. Could you survive in the wilderness for a month?

Though I wouldn’t enjoy it, I could survive. I’m a massive planner and I plan for everything… just for fun. I even have an entire zombie apocalypse plan. LOL It involves living in the wilderness and I’ve actually researched everything I would need to do in order to survive. So yep, this girl could hack it out in the wilderness with all her zombie apocalypse survival skills! LOL

15. What’s the funniest word in the English language?

Cattywampus. I say the other version, kittywampus, all the time, and it makes me giggle every time I say it.

16. What is your biggest pet peeve?

People who complain over and over about a problem or situation that can be remedied if they tried hard enough, yet they make no attempt to change it or fix it. Drives me bonkers. I have no issues with people venting about situations that can’t be fixed, but you won’t find a sympathetic ear over here for long if you make no attempt to better a situation that has another option.

17. If you were challenged to a duel, what weapons would you choose?

If I had to duel someone, I’d go for a jousting duel and grab a lance. I’m very comfortable on a horse and I’ve always wanted to try jousting!

18. If someone narrated your life, who would you want to narrate it?

Morgan Freeman. I don’t know if there’s a better narrator around!

19. What song is stuck in your head today?

Oh man. I just got rid of it and now this question brought it back! LOL “Bobbing Along the Beautiful Briny Sea” from Bedknobs and Broomsticks! I was singing it in my head while I was floating in my raft today and it got stuck for hours.

20. If you could change your name, what would you choose?

“Gone with the Wind” was my first true book love in middle school, and I always wished my name was Scarlett after I read it.

About the Author:

Katherine Hastings loves love. It’s why she writes romance novels. Getting lost writing a romantic adventure is one of her favorite pastimes. When she’s not on an adventure in her mind with her characters, she can be found at her home in Wisconsin snuggling her husband, two Boston Terriers, and the world’s naughtiest cat. Two things make Katherine want to leave her happy home these days... going for rides on her dressage pony or floating at the beach in her big inflatable raft. Writing her novels while floating in the lake is one of her ultimate pleasures... that and Fried Wisconsin Cheese Curds, of course.
