If anyone ever said being an adult was easy, they hadn't been one long enough. Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn't know what the hell she's doing half the time. How she's made it through the last two years of her life without killing anyone is nothing short of a miracle. Being a grown-up wasn't supposed to be so hard. With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for. Except for a boyfriend. Or a husband. But who needs either one of those?
4.5 (FIVE) BOUNDLESS STARS
This is a total standalone book, however, if you have read/listened to some of Zapata’s books you will discover overlapping characters. Diana is the cousin to Sal from Kulti and the BFF of Vanessa from The Wall of Winnipeg. It was awesome to get little views of those characters lives. Once again Zapata is the Queen of the Slow Burn, but unlike Kulti and The Wall of Winnipeg, it wasn’t a love/hate relationship. Dallas was into Diana and dropped so many hints; it was annoying that she didn’t see it. I don’t know how more obvious the guy could be. But Diana doesn’t have a lot of self-esteem from a bad relationship and her relationship with her mother. OMG, I hated Diana’s mom, like seriously hated! I am still not over how much I hated that woman. The story is entertaining but tends to be repetitive at times which can grate. But, I still really enjoyed listening to this single mom find love again. It was sweet, funny, full of heart and loads of charm. I am giving it 4.5 Boundless Stars.
