SYNOPSIS

Gemma Wade has always followed the letter of the law, so when her boss accuses her of embezzlement, she's floored. Then the boss turns up dead, and Gemma is accused of murdering her. She goes on the run to clear her name and is forced to turn to the one man she knows she can trust -- the same man whose heart she broke seven long years ago at her family's insistence. Ryder Magee is a loose cannon who lost his job as a cop in Biloxi. He now works for his twin brother as a bounty hunter and private investigator, and his latest task is to pick up his ex-girlfriend on a fugitive warrant. She swears she's being framed, but he doesn't believe her until a group of men tries to murder her, forcing the two of them to flee. Gemma and Ryder must band together in order to save themselves, and somehow, despite the cloud of danger hanging over them, find their way back to each other in a heartfelt reunion.

TWO (1.5) BOUNDLESS STARS

I was provided a copy of Protecting Her Heart in exchange for an honest review. The premise behind the story was sound, but unfortunately the story just got bogged down in being extremely wordy and repetitive. Then we can go into character points that just irked me, to where I almost DNF'd the book.

Gemma freaked out about being alone in the woods in the dark like a child, yet she will sass off to armed men like nothing. Here character didn’t make a lot of sense. Don’t get me started on the criminals in this novel. They were written like bumbling idiots, and the second set of gunmen were never explained.

The only saving grace of the story was Ryder. Very protective, very alpha, and I liked his backstory. I also liked the whole bad ass twin brother thing. Those men were awesome. Gemma just ruined it, you are either a damsel in distress or a kick ass chick. Not this mashup up of both that was just annoying.

Overall, I am giving the story 1.5 stars, because although I didn’t hate it. It really, could’ve been better.
