Synopsis:

My name is Larkspur, and I am an Elemental. My people use the power of the earth to sustain life and defy our enemies. I should be at my father's side as a royal princess. But as a half-breed, bastard child, that isn't going to happen. In a world of lava and fire, I am about to face my hardest trial yet. Not one of strength, or power, but intrigue and manipulation. However, my tolerance level for anyone outside of my family is at an all-time low, and the queen who rules the Pit expects complete obedience. As Ash's life is held in the balance, I have just three days to prove his innocence and mine. This place holds more than a scorching heat; new foes, traitors, and creatures from the depths of the lava are all trying to keep us from surviving. The only question left. . . Can I get us all out without being burned alive? Welcome to the Pit.

Five Boundless Stars (4.5 stars)

For those who know me know that Shannon Mayer has quickly gained the top spot as my FAVORITE author. I just love the worlds she builds and the kick ass heroines she writes! There is nothing worse than a weak heroin that does nothing but cry and expect a man to save her. Shannon doesn't do that. Her leading ladies are strong independent warriors yet so full of heart and soul that when that rare occasion comes that tears are shed you can't help but cry with them.

"You do what you must to survive. We all do, Dirt Girl. That you feel their loss... that is good. When you stop feeling the pain of your actions... that is when you must be afraid. When you no longer care if you kill, then we have a problem."

In Firestorm we get the third story with Lark having to face insurmountable odds in order to save Ash and herself. Things happened in Recurve (Book #1) that caused them to be in the predicament they are in now. So if you haven't read the deliciousness that is Recurve and Breakwater do that first. It will give you much needed insight to the place we are now.

They have come to the pit where there are traitors, lava, and so much mystery. With all the action and thrills it was hard to put the book down and go to sleep. One of the things I loved is we got to see how Peta and Lark's relationship basically starts and I will admit I love Peta. She is going to make Lark an awesome familiar! Also, I'm really hoping more happens with Lark and Ash. I'm really in love with that dynamic. I'm not sure what to think of Cactus yet.

The thing with this story that boggles the mind is if you are reading Shannon's Rylee books Lark shows up in them and is key to the upcoming battle (I think). So The Elemental series is a prequel to the Rylee Adamson books in a sense. I am amazed how Shannon can keep all of this straight. Did I mention that she is awesome?
