Synopsis:

Fenn Lockwood comes alive in the shadows. Though he might have physically survived the kidnapping that stole his childhood, the trauma and pain he lived through have marked him forever. Now the only place where Fenn can be himself is within the walls of his private BDSM world—a place of erotic obsession, where desire isn't just captured . . . it's bound. Hayden Thorne knows that behind Fenn's hardened exterior is a man worth fighting for. Yet to save him from the past that still haunts him, Hayden will have to abandon every inhibition she's ever had and venture into Fenn's intoxicatingly sensual world. Each tantalizing second she spends in Fenn's searing embrace is more delicious than the last and soon Hayden begins to think that she may never want to leave such torturous bliss . . .

Three Boundless Stars (2.5)

I was provided a copy of The Gilded Cage in exchange for an honest review.

The Gilded Cage is the second book in the Surrender series the first book being The Gilded Cuff. I haven't read the Gilded Cuff, however, there was enough back story that I did not feel lost at all. These stories do tie together and The Gilded Cage is a continuation of the larger storyline on the Gilded Cuff so I would recommend reading them in order. Besides, if you do it like I did and read The Gilded Cage first in blows the story of the Gilded Cuff and that is just a bummer.

I'm not sure what it was but I had a hard time getting into The Gilded Cage. It started off really good then it would just lose me. I think that has more to do with me and knowing that I missed book one and I hate reading books out of order. But once I started, the story was blown on Gilded Cuff and there was no point going back.

Also I found that the writing was a bit on the overly descriptive side for my taste. Or as I like to call it a bit too flowery. Again my personal taste.

I really started off liking Hayden, she was a sassy Sub looking for a Dom that could control her. Yet underneath all of that attitude and sass is a woman who has had her self worth destroyed by rejection and ridicule her entire life. She is looking to redeem herself in her family's eyes by bringing the lost Lockwood twin home, Fenn.

Fenn, (what kind of name is that) is the long lost Lockwood twin living his life, not remembering his past until Hayden barrels into it. Then his world get turned upside down. He suddenly has a family he barely remembers and he has an assassin trying to kill him.

Despite all that Fenn and Hayden have one of those instant attractions. He is a sexual dom and she is a sexual sub. It's perfect. They only thing that keeps getting in the way beside the attempts on their lives is their own self doubt, especially Hyadens. This really started to drag on and drive me nuts!

This story overall was good. The sex scenes were OK. The only real BDSM things going on was Finn would tie Hayden up and give her a spanking.

The overall story with the Kidnapping and assassin was very good and I was super excited until I figured out who was behind it. Not sure if the author did that on purpose but it was so obvious that you just wanted to reach in and smack everyone in the book! Hello right there! There is the person behind everything!

I kinda lost interest at that point and it was a struggle to get through the rest of the book. There weren't any surprises or twists it was very predictable.

The tease for the next book with Wes and Callie, definitely has my interest! I am looking forward to seeing what happens there and it is being added to my TBR.
