At 24 years old, Holly Scallenger has the perfect life. Everything a girl could want; abeautiful man, a stunning home, as well as being in the midst of preparing for the wedding of her dreams. This all vanishes the night she catches her fiancé, Brandon Morgan, in bed with her worst nightmare, Donna Sinclair, just a week before Holly is set to walk down the aisle.
Attempting to recover from his betrayal, Holly swears off the affections of men in order to pick up the pieces of her crumbling life. Unfortunately, meeting Jake & Hooligan Peters is not part of her plan. The tall, dark-haired and handsome as hell med student, sweeps Holly away from the pain of her past and reveals to her the bright future that lays ahead. That is, until she falls pregnant just as Jake begins his internship at P and E; his family's hospital.
Will this love at first sight lead her to the fairytale she has always craved? Or, will she fall victim to a betrayal of the heart yet again?
Sara's Review - Five Boundless Stars
I was provided a copy of Imperfect Love in exchange for an honest review.
I will be honest this book started out great then got a bit bogged down in the middle for me. I almost didn't finish it.
Holly is in a very angry place due to finding her ex fiance has been cheating on her a week before her wedding! She is in that lovely land of all men are scum and must die that so many of us women find ourselves in at some point in our lives. That is until the utterly devastating Jake walks into her life.
Now Jakes is the too good to be true man. Too beautiful, too funny, too smart all of that. Yet he only has eyes for Holly. Yet everywhere they go he turns heads. You can image Holly being a normal woman is very self-conscience about this. Especially since she already lost one man to another women.
Jake isn’t her ex and he is so wonderful and they are blissfully happy. This goes on for months. His family accepts her into the fold and Holly and Jake are in a wonderful place.
This is where the story almost lost me. Because it went on and on, with just them being super happy. I was thinking this could have been a novella. Don’t get me wrong it was super sweet to see and I really liked it but I wasn't seeing the reason behind it (at first). Did I mention I didn't read the blurb on this book?
So Holly and Jake are living in the land of Bliss and having sex like rabbits (which was hot) when two things happen almost at the same time. Jake starts his medical internship and Holly winds up pregnant.
Again Jake loves Holly they are going to be fine, they'll make it work. Then out of nowhere the proverbial rug is pulled out from Holly, and me!
OMG, I am so glad I didn’t quit this book! I lay awake until almost two in the morning finishing it! Sobbing my eyes out! I have been left it such a bereft state! It is rare that I finish a book and I immediately look for the sequel and have to read it right then. I think I would have pulled an all nighter and possibly called in sick just so I could have that next piece of the story! To my utter devastation it’s not out yet! Yep I cried harder! So now I have to patiently wait (not my strong suit) for Secret Love the next book.
**Excerpt**
Holly climbed out of the plush chair and gingerly walked across the soft carpet. Grasping the metal handle, she opened the closet door with a flourish and pulled out the suitcase. Flapping it open, she began arranging all her clothes haphazardly. Lucky for her, it was a big suitcase. When she’d bought it, she knew the size would come in handy one day; she just never thought that it would be used for this.
Pausing in her frantic packing, she fell back onto the white carpet, letting herhair swirl around her, reflecting the tornado of emotions swirling inside her. How could he have done this to her? They’d had so many dreams. They could have beensuch a great couple, if he would have just kept his dick in his pants. Heaven knew she loved Brandon, but she refused to marry Donna, too.
Tears began streaming down her cheeks, leaving a hot path that burned into her very soul. She inhaled deeply, trying not to lose it as she pushed her hair back. She knew that as soon as his Audi pulled into the driveway, he was going to start with his begging again. Especially now; a week before the big day.
She had to stand her ground. She owed it to herself, and deserved so much more than a two-timing whore! Yes, if women were called whores when they did it,men could be labeled in the same manner.
Suddenly, her phone began buzzing frantically. As she looked at the polishedglass screen, a beautiful picture of him and her smiling greeted her. Damn... they looked so happy.
