Synopsis
Della Doe Deare isn't like most people. Most people begin their life on the day they enter the world; the day they're born. Della, well, hers began on the day she turned eighteen. After all, it was the day she first heard her real name, and that of her mothers. With nothing but a couple of duffel bags and a folder full of questions, she travels home to coastal North Carolina to claim the house she inherited from a grandmother she never knew.
She has two goals: discover why her mother ran away from home all those years ago, and avoid the family that had left her to rot in an inept foster care system. Hard to do when the family she's been trying to avoid is dragging her into an unimaginable world... a world on the brink of war, and both sides want her dead. All Della ever wanted was to know who she was, but the journey to self-discovery might just lead to her destruction.
Review - Five Boundless Stars
Della, has been in the foster system all her life. Knowing her mother died when she was born, that's all she really knows of her family.
Then after she turns 18 she learns some information about who her mom was and that she may have family as well. Deciding to change her future, brings her to a past she never knew.
The idea that one can gather from all elements, is really different. Maybe there have been some stories that are similar but I really loved it. I knew half way through, I would have to read the second one.
One thing about Della's character that I loved, was she wasn't weak. She is really strong and really takes on this new responsibility. She wasn't like, why mmeeee?! Like I've seen in other stories. With the help of the family she never knew, she grows to learn to do all the different things with the elements. I don't want to list them because I want it to be something cool, when first reading.
The author really knows how tell a story. Not at one point that I stopped to wonder what the heck was going on. It's a lot to learn in the book but you're also learning all this new stuff with Della.
This is an amazing start to a series. I think the YA crowd will really love it. It's also on KU, which is awesome :)
