Synopsis

Vampires, werewolves, witches, magic—no one in the Sanctuary, home of the survivors of the nuclear apocalypse, believes in such imaginary creations, including Aberdeen Dareday. That is until the day Abby wakes up with black veins bulging under her skin. The day she learns everything she’s been told about the world is a lie. Forced to flee humanity’s last refuge because of her abnormality, and the corpses left in its unexplainable wake, she finds herself on the run in an entirely new world. A world in which darkness reigns, full of supernatural creatures bent on her execution. When all seems lost and facing certain death, Abby is saved by Ash, a quiet yet striking young man who shares her black blood, and her mysterious powers. After Ash reveals a clue regarding an old witch, they head north to her home in Montana, determined to beat the piling odds and obtain the answers they seek. Now hunted by everyone from vengeful humans, to the alluring vampire Prince of Texas, to the Lord Alpha of the largest werewolf pack ever to exist, Abby must discover what is so special about her black blood if she hopes to live and fight another day, but time stands against them as their enemies close in for the kill. Black Blood is a spellbinding cross-genre mutation unlike anything you’ve ever read, weaving paranormal fantasy in a post-apocalyptic world.

Four Boundless Stars

I was provided a copy of black blood through Net Galley in exchange for a honest review. I get such a thrill when a book can blow me away with its originality. Anymore when I read that the book is about vampires and werewolves. I'm thinking to myself, yawn pass. I'm so glad I didn't do that here. Let's first start off with I LOVE the name Aberdeen. I honestly don't think I've ever heard it before. Aberdeen or Abby for short has lived her life under the guise that the world was destroyed during World War III. Little bit of an eerie note the war started July 18, 2015. That is the exact date I was reading that part. Yep chills! So Abby believes her and several others have been rescued by aliens after WWIII. In exchange for the rescue the people have to give up their emotions via a pill. This doesn't work on Abby and one day her blood turns black. You can imagine how freaked she was. I mean her veins are black! Who wouldn't freak out. Let's just say from Abby's blood comes a type of power and she is able to escape the Aliens. This is where Abby's world is turned on its head. There are vampire and werewolves, and witches. Oh my! Let's not forget the hostile humans and wow I don't even know where to begin on what became of some humans!!!! Zombie is too kind of a word. Then let's not forget the Aliens that are trying to recapture her. I was so caught up with this story, it was exciting and full of twists and turns I never saw coming. There is so much action and danger, I can not wait for the next book.
