My name is Larkspur, and I am an Elemental. My people use the power of the earth to sustain life and defy our enemies. I should be at my father's side as a royal princess. But as a half-breed, bastard child, that isn't going to happen. As an Ender, one of my father’s Elite guards, it’s my job to do as I’m told. When my older sister is sent as an ambassador to the realm of the water elementals--the Deep--I have no choice but to accompany her as her bodyguard. With the death of the water elemental's King, a deadly battle for the throne begins; a battle we are forced to choose sides in. There are only a few things I know for sure. The ocean may be beautiful, but lurking in its depths are monsters to fear, the water I tread is teaming with danger and I am on my own. With no one to help, and no one to trust, I have to find a way to keep my sister safe, and stop a civil war. But the secrets within the Deep are far darker than any of us realized. Welcome . . . welcome to the Deep.
Sara's Review
Larkspur is back and totally kicking ass! Breakwater picks up where Recurve left off with Larkspur doing her Enders testing with the Goddess. You really can't read this as a stand alone. Go back start with Recurve you won't regret it. Lark's father the king, who treats Lark like she is something foul he stepped in, send her to protect her sister Belladonna on a diplomatic mission to the deep. The deep is a perilous place full of its own dangers including a psychotic king! Yeah wonderful place for dear old dad to send his daughters! Things go sideways from the start! Like the trained Ender she is, Lark pulls it together to try and protect Belladonna at all costs. I really hated Belladonna in Recurve but in Breakwater we finally get to see that Cassava's cruelty didn't only happen to Lark. The relationship that blossomed between the sisters was a great insight into the evil that Cassava wrought. These two could have been best friends, things could have been so much different. Breakwater was full of action and suspense. I honestly didn't know what was coming next! I was loving every minute yet not wanting it to end! I can not wait for Firestorm!
