What Inspired you to write, The Other Inheritance?

Hmm, that's a tough question. Several things inspired me to write "The Other Inheritance." I was a huge Star Wars fan as a kid, so I always wanted to write an epic, fantasy tale. And I definitely wanted to create a strong female character that girls (and women) could look up to and admire. I also wanted young people to know that life starts after high school and being yourself is okay. Reggie, despite the hardships in her life, is one cool cucumber. She sees an obstacle and creates a plan to overcome it.

Who is your favorite Character?

Brwyn is my favorite character. Don't get me wrong, I love Reggie, I do, but Brwyn was so much fun! He wasn't actually in the original draft. He didn't enter the story until my fourth draft of the novel.

I have to ask, How fun was it to write Brwyn?

Like I said before, so much fun! Brwyn is mischievous and sexy, and yet he is the safest person for Reggie to be around in the Other. Brwyn had his own voice and he let me know it. :)

We’ll we be getting a sequel soon? I’m really hoping :)

I'm writing the sequel now. It's a slow road and I'm only on chapter 5. I desperately want this to be The Empire Strikes Back, not a boring middle novel. But I'm writing as fast as I can, I promise.

Whats one thing, that you want readers to take away from this story?

To accept yourself and realize that you have great strength within.

Bitten by the travel bug, she has recently visited Italy, Greece, Austria, Spain, and finally made it to her bucket-list destination of Istanbul last summer. Rebecca now lives in New York City with her husband, Gregory. She is the curator and program director of the YA Lit Series at the 92nd Street Y--one of New York's premier cultural centers. She enjoys reading and writing fantasy, urban fantasy, steampunk, and science fiction. The Other Inheritance is her first novel.
