Synopsis

“Some boys can get rough, some don’t always listen when you tell them to stop, and some boys, they’re just monsters. You gotta be careful who you play with…” ~ Jax Declan I’m a tease, always have been. In my teens, Jax Declan tried to warn me about staying away from the bad boys. The only boy I ever wanted was Jax. But, no matter how much I tried to play with him, he rejected me. I haven’t seen Jax Declan in years. A couple friends and I are going back to the Bayou for the summer. A little older now, and a bit wiser, I’ve decided that I’m going to find my teenage crush and I’m going to break him. This summer Jax Declan will play with me. But the closer I get and the more I learn about the reserved, discreet, and sexy Jax Declan. Well, I’m starting to think that Jax Declan might just be one of those bad boys he tried to warn me about all those years ago.

Review by Sara

I received a copy for free in exchange for an honest review from the Publisher via Net Galley.

Jax is the first book I've read by Kelly Gendron. I liked the start, three girlfriends are going back "home" for the summer to "break" the Declan Brothers. I love it! A little man revenge.

Emmie has been in lust with Jax since high school, major crush! However, she goes after him much the same way I've seen many desperate girls go after the man of their dreams. In an all out single minded desperate attempt that makes them look pathetic! I think what bothered me most about the way Emma pursued Jax is because it was so real. I've seen my own friends degrade and demean themselves thinking if they do this or that a man will like them. I prefer my heroines kickass and strong!

Jax supposedly wanted Emma since she was 16. Since he was so much older he stayed away and when she turned 18 the opportunity slipped away. Now that she is back he wants another chance. Here is the thing I don't really get. He wants her so bad yet he is constantly playing games. Making her chase him like a simpering little twit. Why do men do this? Again very real. I just wasn't digging it because if you're so into her quit being an ass!

The sex was hot. Jax really likes it rough and Emma seemed to like it also. I did have an issue with him slapping her (although lightly) in the face. Personally that would have got him a knee to the balls from me! Then there is the whole thing with him purposely driving her to use safe word. I didn't get that!

Overall it was OK, I thought the ending scene with Jax and Emmie was way too cheesy!

Slate's book is next in the series and I do look forward to reading that.
