Synopsis

Dalton, I loved you once. A love I thought irrevocable. A love I mistakenly believed could transcend both time and circumstance. Under the influence of my dimwitted, naïve, traitorous heart, I became intoxicated with what I now know was simply a figment of my self-indulgent imagination. So drunk on the feeling, I couldn't see what was right in front of my face. So foolishly enamored, I blindly followed my heart into the depths of an emotion that would ravage me.

Review by Lissa Years later, I know now what I wish I knew then. I am stronger. Smarter. Tougher. I will not allow myself to be broken again. I loved you. I raged for you. I wept for you. And now, I'm letting you go. Author's Note: Under the Influence is the journey of two childhood friends that spans the course of five pivotal years in their lives. It is a story about their discovery of true friendship as it blossoms into first love, their experience of crucial sacrifice and ultimate betrayal, and their endurance of agonizing heartbreak on the way to finding lasting redemption.

Review by Lissa

The beginning, I almost stopped reading. I felt the writing was on a dramatic level. This is the first book I've read by Simmons. But I did continue because there was so much praise.

Dalton is a boy who's was mistreated as a child. Enduring physical abuse at the hands of someone he should be able to trust. He managed his escape within Silas at a young age. In a way stepped in as kind of a father figure/boss. Doing pretty much everything illegal. But Silas is definitely on the evil side

Spencer is a girl who's full of life. She's beautiful and caring. She has an undying love for Dalton. Their relationship in the beginning is just friendship but both want more. It's hard reading it because you know that there love will be bumpy ride.

There's a lot of cheesiness in this book. It seems a tad over the top in some parts. Getting past all of that it's not a bad story. It was a good one. The love story was good, I don't think I connected with the characters as much as I would of liked too. I knew where the ending was going and that's one thing I don't like, if I see it coming. I just feel that there was something missing.

I gave this book a three because it was good but I didn't love it.
