Synopsis:

It’s easy to walk away from lies. Power is another thing. MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she’s already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger. When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed. Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani “Mega” O’Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. The only one Mac can depend on is the powerful, dangerous immortal Jericho Barrons, but even their fiery bond is tested by betrayal. It’s a world where staying alive is a constant struggle, the line between good and evil is blurred, and every alliance comes at a price. In an epic battle against dark forces, Mac must decide who she can trust, and what her survival is ultimately worth.

Review by Sara:

Let me start this off by saying even though Ms. Moning put a wonderful guide at the end of this book which covers "People, Places, and Things to illuminate the backstory". I personally feel you would be cheating yourself out of this deliciously, complex, thrilling, and brilliant world that Ms. Moning has created for us if you don't start from the beginning at Darkfever (Fever #1). That said, MAC IS BACK! It was an extremely long wait between Iced and burned and I am not disappointed one bit with Burned! In Burned we are back to the story centering around MacKayla Lane unlike Iced which centered around the teen Dani “Mega” O’Malley, who is a fellow sidhe-seer with Mac and Mac's best fiend. Oh and let me tell you Dani's story in Burned takes such a twist you will have NEVER guessed!!!! In Burned we also get to see Mac and Jericho Barrons relationship dynamic since the are finally together! The sexual tension that ran in the first five novels hasn't diminished at all. Throughout Burned those two had so much pent up sexually energy the Kindle was melting. ''I defile her with reverence. Or revere her with defilement. Every. Inch. Of. Her." Did I saying melting I mean burning! Burned as a whole was more about character development on a deeper scale. We were shown intimate glimpses of not only Barrons but Ryodan, Christian, The Fae King, and Lor. We saw through Mac's eyes a "behind the scenes" glimpse into a lot of these hard men and we got a true feeling for who they are and what drives them. So even though I didn't personally feel we progressed very far in the story as a whole we got great insight on many main characters. This will most definitely be pivotal in books to come. I Love Ms. Moning's work and admire her dedication to making these books flawless in the details in one of the most complicatedly wonderful worlds I have read. The only issue I have is how long the new novels take!
